20 DATES  Send This Review to a Friend

Writer-director Myles Berkowitz has come up with an original idea that works a good deal of the time. As narrator and star, he lays out his scheme. He longs to make a film and he yearns to fall in love with the right woman. Why not combine both?

Backed by an impatient producer who would prefer an injection of more sex into the project than the director envisions, Myles sets out with his cameraman to go on 20 dates and film all of them. The results are often funny and the film is peppered with insider movie jokes. But what kind of a date can you have while a camera records everything?

Myles meets various types along the way in his entertaining Los Angeles quest. After a while, the film loses some of its initial charm and inventiveness, but the idea is amusing and Berkowitz manages to imbue it with humorous encounters and assorted problems. Does he find true love? You'll have to see it to find out, but the experience will be reasonably enjoyable. A Fox Searchlight release.
