IN DREAMS Send This Review to a Friend
I'm going to save you a trip to the movies. I suffered through "In Dreams", so you don't have to. I can report that it's a laughable horror thriller worth discussion only because of the notables involved in the fiasco. Annette Bening plays a woman going bonkers because a killer has invaded her dreams and she knows in advance of pending child murders. She also has a little girl. Her husband (Aiden Quinn) doesn't know what to do with her. Neither does her psychiatrist (Stephen Rea).
We learn at the outset that all of this must have something to do with a town that was deliberately flooded to create a reservoir. There is unrelenting gibberish in the plot, which gets even more bizarre when Robert Downey, Jr. turns up for the final showdown. Neil Jordan, an accomplished director ("The Crying Game," "The Butcher Boy,"), only succeeds in providing arresting imagery. The more Bening devours the scenery, the more idiotic the film becomes. Enough said. A DreamWorks release.
