BANG GANG--A MODERN LOVE STORY  Send This Review to a Friend

Even though “Bang Gang—A Modern Love Story,” directed by Eva Husson, wallows in sex, it is pretty much of a bore. The film was shown as part of the 2016 Rendez-Vous with French Cinema series and has now made it into commercial release.

The focus is on youth—teenagers on summer holiday in the Biaritz area—and the determination to enjoy sex parties fueled with drugs in groups letting themselves go.

There is plenty of such swinging, but when it gets to the individual stories, the film proves once again the cliché that it difficult to have impersonal relationships without emotions eventually being manifested.

“Bang Gang—A Modern Love Story” is not exploitative, as there is no bent toward titillation. The film comes across more as a chronicle of youthful behavior in a vacuous attempt toward connection through sexual freedom, but at the core is the truth that going through the motions of sex and dealing with the consequences that can arise can still leave empty, unfulfilled lives. A Samuel Goldwyn Films release. Reviewed June 17, 2016.
