DEEP IMPACT Send This Review to a Friend
The less said about DEEP IMPACT the better, no matter how much money it makes. Audiences may enjoy seeing Manhattan disappear under a tidal wave unleashed by the crash of a comet into the Atlantic. (This is the under water season.) The special effects people work hard as the U.S. president (Morgan Freeman) sends a crew into space on a dangerous mission to try to destroy the earth-headed mass with nuclear explosions. But the stories about individuals whose lives are in peril are strictly according to formula. Mimi Leder knows how to film action with the best of them. But can't someone put together a disaster film without the unconvincing people and situations meant to make us care but in fact making it all seem silly? A Paramount release.
