THE BROTHERS BLOOM Send This Review to a Friend
Evidently “The Brothers Bloom” is meant to be a super clever, breezy caper adventure. Although well cast, the film written and directed by Rian Johnson is merely busy. The manipulations and characterizations grow tiresome and irksome.
Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody play brothers who learned how to con as youngsters, when they spent much of their time in foster homes. As adults they embark upon a major con effort, with Ruffalo as the older brother influencing the younger one. Along the way attractive Rachel Weisz comes onto the scene as Penelope, and an international jaunt develops. The brothers take her into their plan, and we’re off and running, with a love interest tossed in.
Veterans of con movies will soon expect a twist. We’re been down this road before in much better vehicles. We’re being conned into thinking that “The Brothers Bloom” is better than it is. A Summit Entertainment release.
