WAKING NED DEVINE  Send This Review to a Friend

Audiences are having a good time laughing at "Waking Ned Devine," reminiscent of the old Ealing Studio comedies that England once exported. What happens when an elderly man in an Irish village wins the lottery but dies before he can claim the jackpot? Villagers hatch a plot to pretend someone else is Ned and fool the lottery representative who comes to verify the winner.

Ian Bannen and David Kelly as two uproarious geezers head a cast of character actors who keep the laughs coming as they surmount one impediment after another, including a crotchety woman who blackmails the villagers with a threat to tell all.Writer-director Kirk Jones, making his film debut, has come up with his own winner. A Fox Searchlight release.
