THE RING TWO Send This Review to a Friend
I enjoy watching Naomi Watts in almost anything, but even she cannot save “The Ring Two” from being a worn retread. Watts is Rachel Keller, who thinks she has left traumas behind, and is now working at a small paper in Oregon in quest of a new start with her son Aidan (David Dorfman). But the video that condemns those who watch it and the lady of the well are back to create more terror. Aidan and Rachel are in deep danger.
The director is Hideo Nakata, whose Japanese “Ringu” spawned the American versions, with Ehren Kruger as the screenwriter struggling to breathe life into the sequel. However, the result gets boring, although the button-pushing can probably jolt the more easily scared here and there.
For example, as Rachel frantically climbs up the well in question, there is the standard ploy of her nemesis reaching to grab her, which ultimately gives Watts a chance to exclaim an expletive that’s good for a cheap laugh. A DreamWorks release.
