BETTER THAN SEX  Send This Review to a Friend

The title begs the question. Is there anything better than sex? In this breezy romantic comedy, a first feature written and directed by Jonathan Teplitzky, the answer is true love. This is another film that starts with the premise that it is possible to just have casual sex and let it go at that. One night in Sydney, Australia, two people meet at a party. Josh is a photographer of wildlife visiting from London and supposed to return in three days. They share a taxi and wind up hopping into bed with the thought of a one-night stand.

Wouldn't you guess, the sex is so terrific that the lovemaking continues, and presto, an affection begins to develop quickly and the twosome start getting to know one another. Naturally, a screenwriter has to dream up a complication, and she comes in the form of Sam, Cin's friend who starts to insinuate herself into the situation despite Cin's effort to keep her away. Sam is not easily overlooked, and Josh is not immune to her flirtatiousness. Trouble ahead.

David Wenham and Susie Porter are likable in the leads, Catherine McClements does right by Sam, and Kris McQuade has a role as a woman taxi driver. While the outcome is predictable, the film it is pleasant enough and has sufficient bounce and candor to be lightly amusing. A Samuel Goldwyn Films-Fireworks Pictures release.
