BURNT MONEY Send This Review to a Friend
We have enough homegrown violent films without having to go to Argentina for one. "Burnt Money," directed by Marcelo Pineyro, is about robbers who go down the trail to their doom. America had its Bonnie and Clyde. This is more like Clyde and Clyde. It is said to be based on a true bandit saga.
Nene (Leonardo Sbaraglia) and Angel (Eduardo Noriega) meet in a public bathroom and strike up a homosexual relationship. They become known as "the twins" and get involved in a bloody robbery. They are now hunted men. Meanwhile, intruding upon the relationship is Giselle, a prostitute, and she and Nena have sex, which doesn't sit well with Angel. Nene has to choose, and his choice ends up bringing a storm of police to surround the male lovers in their lair.
The ensuing battle makes the finale of "Bonnie and Clyde" look like merely a bit of target practice. There is enough ammunition expended on both sides to supply a war as the outlaws, loyal to the last as desperate lovers, meet a bloody, ignominious end and the boring film is over. A Strand Releasing release.
