AMERICAN PIE 2  Send This Review to a Friend

One may at first think the requisite gross-out scene in the youth comedy "American Pie 2" is when a character who thinks his girlfriend is pouring champagne on his head is getting urinated on by someone from the terrace above. Not so. The grossest comic situation still to come occurs when Jason Biggs as Jim is fooled into thinking he is using a penis lotion to smooth his masturbation when it is actually fast-sticking glue, which leaves his hand stuck to his member. Given the mindset of Jim and his buddies, that's where his hand is probably "glued" most of the time, but this occasion induces comic panic and with a video stuck to his other hand, the embarrassment mounts as he is carted off for medical attention.

With the original cast reunited, the sequel fills the same purpose as the fresher and funnier original--piling on the exploits of guys bent on sex but having assorted problems in attaining it. After a year at college, the buddies rent a beachfront vacation spot where they are determined to have one great summer. Jim is still smarting from the earlier embarrassment of having a shamble of a sexual escapade with the seductive Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) seen on camera. She's due back from Europe but he feels inept about sex and relies upon kooky Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) for friendly instruction, which turns out to be more than he expected.

The rest of the gang includes Seann William Scott as the overbearing Stifler and the pretentious Eddie Kay Thomas as Finch, still lusting after Stifler's mother. The humor in the screenplay by Adam Herz consists of such escapades as two women being mistaken for lesbians and getting even by pretending to be gay as a ploy to inducing the boys to make homosexual advances to one another. As director, J.B. Rogers knows that the task at hand is to make the film fit the bill for gross summer mayhem that will appeal to its target audience. A Universal Pictures release.
