It's music, music, music in director Fernando Trueba's salute to Latin jazz, a film which gives you and eyeful and an earful with a cast of performers entertaining you with the real stuff. A special attraction is footage of the late Tito Puente.
Although biographical material is interspersed, the prime focus is on the playing. The performers also include Eliane Elias of Brazil, Chano Dominguez of Spain, Michel Camilo of the Dominican Republic, Jerry Gonzalez of the United States, Gato Barbieri of Argentina, and of course, the large Cuban contingent consisting of Paquito D'Rivera, Chucho Valdes, Chico O'Farrill, Bebo Valdes, Orlando "Puntilla" Rios, Carlos Valdes "Patato" and Israel Lopez "Cachao."
Trueba has assembled 12 segments showing off Latin jazz and the musicians who honor it, with the result a rich feast. A Miramax Films release.
