TOO MUCH SLEEP  Send This Review to a Friend

What starts as an off-beat idea soon grows tedious in "Too Much Sleep," a title which might best describe the problem in watching it. In his first feature writer-director David Maquiling leads us into suburbia to spin a story about Jack, a phlegmatic, inept young man who works in the unlikely (for him) job as a security guard and who lives with his mother. On a bus one day his gun is swiped.

The film deals with Jack's efforts to get the gun back, which involves getting help from a strange guy named Eddie (Pasquale Gaeta), a man who boasts about his past and his connections. There are some funny bits in Eddie's gruffness and anecdotes, and Maquiling tries to keep a wry perspective while poking some fun at suburban types.

But the character of Jack, played by Marc Palmieri, isn't very interesting. It is hard to make someone that hapless worthy of focus in a film built around him. The action soon runs out of steam and it becomes tiresome following him through his misadventures. A Shooting Gallery release as part of its series
