REMEMBER  Send This Review to a Friend

Yet another film rooted in the Holocaust, ”Remember,” set in the United States, is a suspense film that involves a hunt for a man with a Nazi past as a perpetrator at Auschwitz. It is directed by Atom Egoyan and stars Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau.

We meet Plummer as Zev and Landau as Max, both of whom are in an assisted living residence for the elderly. Zev is losing his memory and is in a daze most of the time. Max provides Zev with a series of instructions that he agrees to follow in search of the guilty concentration camp criminal who has escaped retribution. He also is given a gun. There are several similar names. Who would be the right one? Several cities have to be visited.

The plot is far-fetched, but the subject and the fine acting by Plummer, Landau and a good supporting cast keeps the story involving. Yet one can pick apart the plot for various reasons. For example, it is difficult to believe that Plummer in his state of mind could even follow the course.

The twist resolution is especially tough to swallow. However, there is an aura about “Remember” that can draw one along with the director’s suspense-building. And virtually any subject related to the Holocaust commands attention. An A24 release. Reviewed March 11, 2016.
