ZOOLANDER 2  Send This Review to a Friend

What a mess! And a loud, brash, thundering, visually oppressive and mentally challenged mess. Is there an audience for “Zoolander 2”? Perhaps. But it certainly isn’t for moviegoers who like their satire witty.

The assault sequel, in no way as entertaining as the best parts of the original low-comedy spectacle, picks up on Ben Stiller as Derek Zoolander, the male model, reunited with his buddy Hansel (Owen Wilson), and they set out to save the world of fashion, which is satirized oh-so broadly. The action moves to an international fashion event in Rome.

I won’t even go into the plot permutations, a challenge for anyone to follow. The enemy is Mugatu, of course, who must be destroyed and is played garishly by Will Ferrell. The film also has stars Penélope Cruz and Kristen Wiig, along with a battery of the famous in cameo roles. Play ID them if you care.

The onslaught is directed by Ben Stiller from a screenplay that he wrote with Justin Theroux, John Hamburg and Nicholas Stoller. What were they thinking? A Paramount Pictures release. Reviewed February 12, 2016.
